Shooting Inter-Schools

The National Inter-Schools is a nerve-racking competition for both coaches and shooters. To most shooters, this competition is the Olympics where school’s tradition, pride and honour are at stake.

Hence, I was over the moon when the monkeys rose to the challenge and swept three of the four C Division team titles. We won the team gold in the Air Rifle Girls, the Air Rifle Boys and the Air Pistol Girls events. And we also won the bronze medal in the Air Pistol Boys event.

In the Air Rifle Girls event, Meow Meow won the individual gold medal. Her score of 391 points equalled the event record. Adele followed up with a bronze.

In the Air Rifle Boys event, Sniper Ong shot his way into first place and Irwan finished in fourth.

Fion, Shannon and Sheryl came in second, third and fifth in the Air Pistol Girls event.

Ricky finished off the C Division with a fourth placing in the Air Pistol event.

In the B Division, Audrey won the gold medal in the Air Rifle event while Shuet followed up with a bronze. Audrey’s score of 393 is the highest score across all divisions.

Although, the National Inter-Schools was a 6-day event but it took the academy three months of tears and sweat to prepare. The monkeys owe their fantastic results to their coaches. I would like to thank Chea Rong, Nigel, Annie and Vanessa for their guidance, patience and belief. For those of you who did not meet your own expectation, never mind. I believe in you. You will certanly do better at the next competition.

I was very proud of the monkeys when they sang (murdered) the school's song at the prize giving ceremony. They were united as one. Thanks, Claire - for leading the troop.

Anyway, hope you guys enjoyed the dinner. Mdm Chan promised to buy you guys dinner too.

Strong Heart

It’s true: That doesn’t kill you will make you stronger. There were many occasions during the past three days of the National Inter-Schools when we could have died from a heart attack. Since I am still able to post here, the coaches' and my heart must certainly be stronger now.

Many of the monkeys were very jittery at this extremely intense competition. Hence, it was really nerve-racking watching them shoot. Anyway, the monkeys have stepped up to the challenge. They have swept 3 team titles and several individual medals to-date. Well done, guys.

However, do spare a thought for me. The coaches are still young. I am old and have a weak heart. I am sure you guys want me to be around until you guys graduate.

Love you guys. Good nite.

Final Day OF SYOF

It has been a very busy week for the Shooting Academy. Besides training at our own shooting range and that of HomeTeamNS, all of them took part in the second edition of the Singapore Youth Olympic Festival. I am sure they are glad to be part of this week-long festival which aims to get youth involved in sport and embraced the Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect.

Clothes Make The Man

The juniors' rifles suits have finally arrived. They definitely look good and some even cute but can they shoot. We shall see in the coming weeks.

Singapore Youth Olympic Festival

It will be one crazy week - SYOF at SAFRA, training at SSP and HomeTeamNS. I guess it is going to be not much of a school holidays for everyone.

Anyway, today is the first day of SYOF and the Sec 1 shooters did resonably well. Most of them were happy that they won medals (medal were given to the top eight). Hopefully, the medals will spur them to train harder.

SSP Junior Shootout 2013

This is the third year we are organising this event. Except for a little hiccup with the scoring projection, everything else went according to plan. It was great to see the parents and teachers supporting their kids. Many thanks to the coaches and shooters for making this event a success. Congrats to the winners, especially Innova Primary School and Chongfu School for clinching the Air Rifle and Air Pistol Team Challenge Trophies. I hope to see some of these young shooters joining SSP.
